- Business Analyst - 18-Month Maternity Cover - to cover handover and handback
Salary: £42,000 per annum
Location: Hertfordshire - Hybrid Working
Contract: Fixed-Term Contract - approximately 18 months
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full Time - Monday to Friday 35 hours per week - Hybrid 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
The Opportunity
Mosaic Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Business Analyst to join an established Hertfordshire-based organisation on an approximately 18-month fixed-term maternity cover contract.
Starting in September 2026, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete a thorough handover with the current postholder before taking responsibility for the role.
This is an interesting and varied position that sits between business analysis, technology, systems improvement and project support. You will work closely with Project Managers and teams across the organisation, analysing existing processes, gathering requirements and identifying practical ways in which technology can improve efficiency and ways of working.
This isn't a purely traditional Business Analyst position. Alongside project and process improvement responsibilities, you'll provide hands-on support for business systems and technology, including second-line technical support and end-user device management.
It's therefore a great opportunity for someone who combines strong Business Analysis skills with a practical, hands-on approach to technology and problem-solving.
The Role
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
You will work with teams across the organisation to understand how existing processes operate and identify opportunities to improve them.
Responsibilities will include:
- Analyse existing business processes and workflows in response to project and change requests.
- Identify inefficiencies, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend practical solutions that improve processes, systems and user experience.
- Produce clear process maps and supporting documentation.
- Take a hands-on approach to implementing agreed improvements.
- Look for opportunities to automate or simplify repetitive processes.
- Support continuous improvement across the organisation.
A key part of the role will involve working with stakeholders to understand what they need from new systems, projects and process changes.
You will:
- Manage the requirements lifecycle from initial discussions through to validation and sign-off.
- Facilitate meetings and discussions to establish business requirements.
- Translate business needs into clear and structured requirements.
- Produce business requirements documents, process maps, findings reports and task trackers.
- Ensure requirements are clearly understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project and change documentation.
You'll help the organisation make better use of its existing technology rather than automatically looking for new systems.
This will include:
- Using existing Microsoft tools to improve processes and efficiency.
- Identifying opportunities to automate manual processes.
- Developing or supporting solutions using Power Automate.
- Using SharePoint to improve information sharing and workflows.
- Using Power BI to support reporting and business insight.
- Supporting the introduction and adoption of system improvements.
- Keeping up to date with available technology and identifying where it could solve business challenges.
You'll work with people across different departments and at varying levels of technical knowledge.
Responsibilities include:
- Building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Liaising with external technology providers and suppliers.
- Facilitating conversations between technical and non-technical teams.
- Managing expectations and communicating project or system changes clearly.
- Understanding stakeholder concerns and helping identify practical solutions.
- Supporting colleagues through periods of change.
Testing & Quality Assurance
You will play an active role in ensuring new systems and changes work effectively before implementation.
This will include:
- Planning and coordinating User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Developing test scripts and scenarios.
- Coordinating users involved in testing.
- Recording and managing issues identified during testing.
- Working with relevant teams to ensure issues are resolved.
- Confirming that solutions meet agreed business requirements before deployment.
You will use data to support decision-making and demonstrate whether improvements are delivering the expected results.
Responsibilities include:
- Producing accurate reports and management information.
- Analysing data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Supporting recommendations with meaningful evidence.
- Monitoring the impact of implemented changes.
- Helping measure project benefits and improvements.
- Presenting findings clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Alongside your Business Analyst responsibilities, you will provide practical technology support to colleagues.
This will include:
- Providing second-line technical support for day-to-day IT and system queries.
- Investigating and resolving technical issues.
- Escalating more complex problems to specialist third-party support providers.
- Managing laptops, mobile phones and other end-user devices throughout their lifecycle.
- Supporting users with system and technology-related queries.
- Coordinating equipment setup, replacement and maintenance.
You will also support relationships with external technology suppliers and service providers, including:
- Raising and managing support tickets.
- Coordinating service requests and system changes.
- Following up outstanding issues.
- Supporting the administration of telephony and other business systems.
- Maintaining effective relationships with third-party providers.
- Ensuring issues are progressed and resolved within appropriate timescales.
Working alongside Project Managers, you'll provide practical support across a variety of business and technology projects.
This may include:
- Maintaining project documentation.
- Updating trackers and action logs.
- Supporting project meetings.
- Coordinating activities across stakeholders.
- Assisting with project administration.
- Raising relevant purchasing documentation and supporting project expenditure processes.
- Helping ensure projects remain organised and progress according to agreed plans.
We're looking for someone who combines strong analytical skills with excellent communication and a practical approach to technology.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst or in a similar business improvement role.
- Strong requirements gathering and documentation experience.
- Experience analysing and mapping business processes.
- The confidence to facilitate meetings, workshops and stakeholder discussions.
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience coordinating or participating in UAT.
- The ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience providing first or second-line technical support.
- Experience supporting laptops, mobile phones or other end-user technology.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines.
- A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach.
Desirable Technical Skills
Experience with some of the following would be particularly useful:
- Microsoft Power BI
- Microsoft Power Automate
- Microsoft SharePoint
- Microsoft Visio
- Process Mapping
- Workflow Automation
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Digital Transformation
- Continuous Improvement
- Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
- Third-party technology/vendor management
