Location: Hertford (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £50,000 FTE
Contract: Part-Time (3-4 Days per Week can be flexible) | Maternity Cover (September 2026 - March 2027)
 
The Opportunity
 
Mosaic Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with an award-winning regional law firm to recruit an experienced Medical Negligence Lawyer to join their highly regarded Clinical Negligence team on a part-time maternity cover contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with a minimum of three years' experience handling claimant medical negligence matters who is looking for a flexible role within a supportive and collaborative legal environment.
You'll be joining a respected specialist team that is recognised for delivering exceptional client care while handling a broad range of complex and sensitive medical negligence cases.
 
The Role
Working closely with experienced senior lawyers, you will independently manage a caseload of approximately 30 claimant medical negligence files at various stages of progression.
The caseload will include matters involving:
  • Misdiagnosis
  • Psychiatric injury
  • Fatal claims
  • Complex clinical negligence cases
You will be responsible for progressing matters from initial investigation through to resolution, ensuring clients receive outstanding legal advice and compassionate support throughout their claim.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of claimant medical negligence matters.
  • Gather and review medical evidence.
  • Identify legal issues and assess liability.
  • Prepare witness statements, schedules of loss and Particulars of Claim.
  • Instruct Counsel and medical experts.
  • Liaise with Defendants, insurers and external parties.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing clear advice and updates.
  • Ensure files are managed efficiently and in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Deliver an exceptional level of client care throughout every stage of the claim.
About You
 
The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with at least three years' experience managing claimant medical negligence cases.
You will also possess:
  • Proven experience managing your own clinical negligence caseload.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of claimant medical negligence law.
  • Outstanding client care and communication skills.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with clients during often difficult and emotional circumstances.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation abilities.
  • Good IT skills and experience using case management systems.
  • A compassionate, empathetic and professional approach.
