Description

We have an excellent brand-new opportunity for a SHEQ Manager for a leading company within the construction sector.

The role has come about due to increased workload and has the potential to grow and become a team. This is national role with various offices up and down the country. The majority of the work is around the Midlands and Southeast so ideally this is where you would be located.

You will work proactively supervising and coordinating work systems to ensure that the products and/or services of the company meet the highest quality standards and that working conditions of the company are favourable and safe.

You will cover four principal areas: Commercial Service and Maintenance, Commissioning and Diagnostics, Residential Service and Maintenance and Installation project work. You will visit sites at least two days per week and spend at least one day in the office for meetings and updates.

Salary is £45-50,000 per annum plus bonus based on KPI’s and excellent benefits and working conditions. A fully funded car, laptop and phone will be included.

Key Results Areas include:

  • Set direction and work priorities, in conjunction with line management, for the continuous improvement of SHEQ within Life Cycle Solutions, including field-based working, management and welfare systems and processes; including developing annual Health, Safety and Environmental improvement plans in conjunction with the Business, line managers and monitor the implementation of the actions identified.
  • Advise management on new or existing SHEQ-related legislation, rules and Company standards to include fire prevention, health and safety awareness, site inspections of Company and contractors’ sites (where relevant) and implement changes as required, ensuring all advice is incorporated into day-to-day processes and operations.
  • Control and maintain all aspects of the Life Cycle Solution’s SHEQ compliance requirements working alongside other relevant colleagues across the various offices.
  • Lead SHEQ Communication Plan for all sites and levels of staff, to include written information, toolbox talks and management briefs.
  • Responsible for ensuring all accidents, near misses, and environment failures are investigated to identify true root causes, agree with line management cost-effective methods of preventing a recurrence of these types of risks/failures, monitor their implementation and effectiveness and personally conduct investigations for major or very complex issues using personal expertise including visiting customer sites.
  • Liaise with external bodies on environment and health/safety matters, e.g., formal investigations on environment/health/safety issues.
  • To complete prevention inspections on a regular basis and ensure records maintained of same.
  • Complete and review all forms of risk assessment e.g., general, manual handling, COSHH, fire prevention, method statements and acts as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments performed by others on site.
  • To assist in retaining all current quality accreditations and work towards the attainment of new quality accreditations including ISO.
  • Conducts occupational health and safety related surveys e.g., noise, lighting, exposure to chemical substances and makes associated recommendations.
  • Assists with tender/submission documentation.
  • Implement control of contractors and permit to work procedures, review contractor vendor assessments, specific risk assessments and method statements.
  • Develop induction & training programmes specific to site-based engineers which must be maintained to be up to date with all relevant legislation & compliance matters.

Qualifications

  • Essential - General Management Qualification Graduate IOSH Status or CMIOSH status Experience
  • General NEBOSH Certificate CSR Site Card First Aid Basic Certificate
  • Desirable – NEBOSH Fire Prevention and Risk Management Certificate Environmental Management Systems

Experience

  • Essential - Experience in a complex SHEQ Management Role  
  • Essential- Risk Management, Method Statement Review, Site inspections and investigations, company preparation for Audits, Compliance and maintenance of relevant standards, Risk Assessment experience, CDM Regulations implementation, an in-depth understanding of and the ability to interpret SHEQ-related legislation, Company standards and programme requirements in order to pass on knowledge and requirements to others.
  • Desirable - Experience of BSI ISO 9001, BSI ISO 14001 and BSI OHSAS 18001 standard

Skills/Knowledge

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft office suite to include day to day experience of excel sheets, excellent report writing skills and document management experience.
