We have a new and exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to work closely with a team of Underwriters to assist in the management of my clients rapidly growing schemes business.
The successful applicant will need to have a minimum of 1 years’ commercial insurance experience in an underwriting type role and have an awareness of commercial classes of business.
This role would be ideal for somebody looking to take the next step in their insurance career. Full training will be provided but my client will expect the individual to be able to understand their binding authorities quickly and add value to the teams within a short period.
They will be looking for the candidate to undertake CII qualifications so progress towards these already would be an advantage as a sound technical knowledge will be required for this role.
The candidate will work closely with the team to review scheme business, check quotations and documentation, take an active role in our internal audit programme and get involved in new scheme development.
Key Duties:
- Deputise for the Underwriter by assisting staff and providing technical support and guidance
- Assist the Underwriter with ad hoc “project work” to assist in the development of new schemes
- Act as a technical referral point for more junior staff and provide coaching and guidance where necessary
- Assist in the underwriting of scheme business in accordance with the relevant binding authorities
- Check new business quotations to ensure they are underwritten within the terms of the relevant binding authorities
- Manage own workload (taking responsibility for the more technically complex cases) and assess customer’s needs and then provide suitable advice whilst treating all customers fairly at all times
- Ensure all administration and paperwork is undertaken in accordance with the firm’s procedures
- Ensure you conduct yourself in accordance with the Rules, codes of Conduct and Guidelines as issued by the firm and FCA
Person Specification:
- Minimum 1 years’ commercial experience
- Demonstrable commitment to a previous employer
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong IT skills (Experience with OpenGI System is an advantage)
- Somebody looking to further a career in insurance
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Cert CII qualified or progress towards
