We are currently working with a fantastic organisation who are looking for a Housing Officer to join them on a temporary basis. This position is to cover long-term sickness and will last up to 8 weeks.
This exciting opportunity will involve supporting Housing Management in all aspects. The successful candidate will be energetic and have excellent organisational abilities, they will also be customer centric, empathetic, determined and committed to providing service excellence. The role will involve acting as a central point of contact for senior citizens and vulnerable residents. They require someone who is resourceful, builds rapport and is effective and efficient when resolving a wide and diverse range of issues which may sometimes be emergencies.
Earning a salary of £10 per hour, you will work Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00am to 5:15pm.
Responsibilities and Duties of Housing Officer
- To visit and account for tenants in sheltered and grouped accommodation every duty day ensuring a call register is properly maintained.
- To take responsible care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by what you do or fail to do.
- To maintain an accurate record of relatives, key holders and medical contacts (e.g. General Practitioners, Nurses etc.) for each tenant.
- To summon the appropriate help in an emergency.
- To complete a Welcome Checklist, Support Plan and Fire Risk Assessment for each new tenant including existing tenants with care and support needs and ensure documents are reviewed regularly.
- To provide support to tenants in accordance with their Support Plan.
- To support tenants to live independently.
- To involve relatives as appropriate.
- To report any tenancy issues to the Housing Management Officer.
- To promote social activities of all kinds.
- To act as a catalyst to senior citizens in the area.
- To undertake relief duties at other locations, as required.
- To complete paperwork and write reports on incidents as necessary.
- To test alarm equipment including smoke detectors in each dwelling regularly.
- To test fire alarm equipment including fire bells and undertake fire drills at regular intervals.
- To ensure security of complex.
- Instruct tenants on the proper use of fixtures and fittings in the dwelling or communal area.
- Ensure communal areas are kept clean and tidy and clear of obstructions.
- Ensure firefighting equipment is regularly checked and maintained.
- Collecting TV Licence and Guest Room money where required.
- To work to the Council’s Health & Safety Policy and to comply with the Lone Worker Policy
- To undertake other such duties as may be appropriate to the post.
The Key Skills and Competencies of the Housing Officer
- To be a clear and effective communicator - you will be required to liaise with other agencies and residents family regularly.
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable residents previously.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to complete risk assessment forms and file reports.
- Flexible working approach.
- Possession of a full driving licence and access to a car for business use.
- Strong IT skills and ability to use all Microsoft programs.
- Experience of using on-call equipment highly desirable.
- Full DBS check highly desirable.
